About Us

Meera Nritya Niketan.. a name synonymous to an Institution of repute. We cater  to the cultural needs of Central India by  churning out budding talents, training them, and presenting them to the stage and to the society, to spread the fragrance of this performing art, with innovative style.  Some pure, some blended judiciously with certain other art forms to facilitate a common man to understand, assimilate and enjoy.

Scores of students passing out of MNN are spread around the globe following the ideals of their Guru, Kalasiromani Meera Chandrasekaran, the Director of Meera Nritya Niketan. Founded way back in 1974, Meera Nritya Niketan under the able guidance of Kalasiromani Meera Chandrasekaran  and with the blessings of the patrons has grown into becoming almost an authority on the subject in order to fill the cultural vacuum that was required in  Central India,

Talents are galore in the country…  it just needs to be identified and groomed before subjecting to a systematic rigorous training and presentation termed as Arangetram. This is done meticulously by Kalasiromani Meera Chandrasekaran. More than 60 students have performed Arangetram under her guidance.

More than 50 dance ballets, musical dance dramas have been choreographed by the Guru Meera Chandrasekaran in various subjects viz. mythological, historical and social in different languages viz. Tamil, Hindi and Marathi, have been presented in different parts of the country.  To name a few, Srinavasa Kalama, , Dhraupadi Vastraharanam, Urvashi Kama Dahanam, Trishakti, Ayappa Charitam Kirhna Tulabaram, Dasavataram, Anarkali, Achooto ki dunia, Valli Kalyanam etc. Ramayanam, Aman, Dahej, Niyati, Chaitanya moorthy gyandev, Sant Gyaneswar, Radha Kalyanam, Rukmini Kalyanam etc. Some of them have been highly appreciated by as high a dignitary as the late Dr. R. Venkataraman, former President of India.

A few disabled girls have also been trained personally by Kalasiromani Meera Chandrasekaran and presented.

MEERA NRITYA NIKETAN firmly believes that the art of expression should not remain the privilege of connoisseurs.  It can be a delightful experience for the common man too, if he can easily comprehend the subtle message behind the myriad expression of the artiste. And MNN strives to reach out to the common through her artistes to have a communion of ideas.

Kalasiromani Smt.Meera Chandrasekaran, daughter of Mrs.Anandvalli and Late Mr.A.R.Natarajan, who themselves were great connoisseurs of classical dance, drama and music.  Meera Chandrasekaran was stimulated and motivated  by her highly illustrious parents.   Born and brought up in an environment of fine arts,  she has always been a keen student and commenced her initial training in KATHAK under Guru Shri. Maniklal Mukherjee and subsequently in BHARATNATYAM under Guru Smt. Rajarajeshwari  ( discipline of renowned Bharatnatyam exponent ( Late ) Guru Dandayuthapani Pillai ).

Ably supported and encouraged by her husband, Mr. S. Chandrashekhran, an ex- Sr. Executive of a public sector undertaking, Meera has not turned back ever since she has taken the responsibility of MNN in 1974.

The dedication, devotion and deepest love for expressional performing fine art called  “Indian Classical Dance” remains her only aspiration, ambition and passion in life, right from her childhood.

Smt. Meera  Chandrasekaran, an accomplished Bharatnatyam exponent who achieved national fame at a very  young age, became a Guru ( a teacher ) when most of her contemporaries in the field were busy charting out ambitious courses.

Mrs. Meera  Chandrasekaran, a fine exponent of a rare art of nurturing talents, is a NRITYALANKAR in Bharatanatyam and a recipient of several awards and appreciations from National and Regional Associations like Sangeet Research Academy, Sanskar Bharti, Basoli Kutuhal, and Maharashtra Sanskrit Sabha.   She has also been a contributory Lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts, Nagpur University.

In today’s world, where relentless and often unethical practices are resorted to for the promotion of one’s own image, it is often strange and amazing to find someone who loves and cares to see others flowering with his efforts.

With the aim of making her students not only dancers but the best performers and helping them attain ultimate satisfaction and joy while in front of an audience,  Meera has constantly portrayed off beat themes to explore the new avenues in the field of classical dance. Creativity remains the most striking feature in her choreography.   She considers Fine Arts as the best medium for expression. Hence she explores this medium with fullest freedom to conduct novel experiments, to widen the horizons and the scope of her creativity. She firmly believes that Art can grow and flourish only if it is blended with the emerging new trends of the social and cultural ethos
